Most revision advice is a guess dressed up as confidence. I'm Kyle James, a current NSW HSC science teacher, and instead of guessing, I indexed every question in the 2019 to 2025 HSC Biology and Chemistry papers by topic, marks and difficulty, then applied a fixed rule to find out which topics the papers actually keep coming back to.

That analysis is published in full, not just quoted at you, on the Biology and Chemistry breakdown pages, so you can check a label rather than trust it. Tutoring sessions use the same evidence: the topics below get first claim on revision time because seven years of papers say they earn it, and the rest of a session still targets whatever your school's assessment calendar has coming up next.

What this is, and what it is not

It is not a prediction and it does not reproduce any NESA exam question or marking-guide text, only statistics derived from seven years of past papers. A topic in four or six of seven papers may simply have been on a rotation.

Biology and Chemistry are not directly comparable. Chemistry returns to the same topics year on year, so its bar is set higher; Biology rotates through a much wider syllabus, so its bar is set lower. Each subject uses its own rule, published on its own breakdown page, for exactly that reason.

What does "high yield" actually mean?

It is a structural label, not a prediction. Every question in the 2019 to 2025 HSC Biology and Chemistry papers was indexed by topic and marks. A topic is labelled high yield if it appeared often enough and carried enough marks across those seven years to clear a fixed rule, published in full on the breakdown pages. It tells you what the paper has rewarded, not what is coming this year.

Can I see the actual data?

Yes. The full topic-by-topic breakdown for Biology and Chemistry, including the exact rule used and every topic that did not make the high-yield list, is published on their own pages. No exam question wording or marking-guide text is reproduced, only the derived statistics.

Do you tutor Physics or Maths this way too?

Physics and Maths tutoring are both available, but this topic-yield analysis currently only exists for Biology and Chemistry, so the same high-yield claim is not made for those subjects. Mention Physics or Maths on the enquiry form and sessions will still be built around your actual syllabus and assessment calendar.

Is this available in Sydney, or only the Central Coast?

Sessions run online now, live over video, to HSC students anywhere in New South Wales, including Sydney, Newcastle, the Central Coast, Wollongong and regional NSW. In-person places on the Central Coast open from December 2026.

How much does tutoring cost?
