Dissolve the Sample
Weigh the unknown sample and dissolve it completely in a suitable solvent (usually distilled water). Any undissolved material would lead to an inaccurate result because not all analyte would be available to react.
Why: The analyte must be fully in solution so it can react completely with the precipitating reagent.
