Question 1

Design a comparison to distinguish wing-length and paper-type effects without changing both together unknowingly.

Question 2

Evaluate “My hypothesis was correct because the longest spinner fell slowly once.”

Teacher answer key — 2 questions

Model responses identify the essential ideas. Accept scientifically correct alternatives that address the question; wording need not match exactly.

  1. Test wing lengths within one paper type, or explicitly use each combination of wing length and paper type with repeats and random order. Record each factor and avoid attributing a combined change to one factor.
  2. One observation may fit the prediction but cannot establish a dependable pattern. Use defined conditions, comparison lengths, repetitions and variation before making a scoped conclusion.
