Question 1

Evaluate “Because error bars overlap, there is definitely no relationship.”

Question 2

Write a conclusion–limitation–follow-up sequence for a safe investigation of towel absorption.

Teacher answer key — 2 questions

Model responses identify the essential ideas. Accept scientifically correct alternatives that address the question; wording need not match exactly.

  1. The claim overstates what overlap alone shows. Identify the interval definition, design, sample size and suitable analysis. A cautious conclusion can recognise uncertainty without declaring a universal absence.
  2. State the measured pattern with units and conditions; identify a specific issue such as unequal sample area or few independent samples; propose an area-controlled comparison with more independent samples. Accept coherent alternatives.
