Two aligned Australian succession sequences. Primary succession develops from bare coastal sand without developed soil through pioneer grasses, soil formation, shrubland and woodland. Secondary succession begins after fire with soil and roots intact, allowing resprouting before canopy and hollow-bearing structure gradually return.
