Question 1

Compare a single plate observation with a controlled test of a prepared extract. What extra evidence can the test offer?

Question 2

A cylinder records 35.0 to 42.0 mL for an object with attached air. Explain the likely effect on estimated object volume.

Question 3

Why should a historical timeline identify several researchers and stages?

Teacher answer key — 3 questions

Model responses identify the essential ideas. Accept scientifically correct alternatives that address the question; wording need not match exactly.

  1. A suitable comparison can isolate whether the extract changes growth relative to the control. It remains separate from human safety or clinical effectiveness.
  2. 7.0 mL is the measured displacement, but attached air contributes volume, so it can overestimate the object’s actual volume.
  3. It prevents conflating initial observation with validation and practical development and makes clear which evidence addressed each question.
